A GitHub Cross-Industry PM Playbook for Success must be rooted in an Innovator’s DNA.
View the playbook
This playbook is a living document inspired by my journey from traditional project and program management (PM) in technical environments—such as aerospace and defense—to innovation leadership across nonprofits, education, and enterprise organizations. Throughout this evolution, I’ve learned that PM encompasses both structured project execution and strategic program leadership, roles often adjacent to product and operations management.
Central to this transformation is what Jeff Dyer, Hal Gregersen, and Clayton Christensen describe in their Harvard Business Review research as the Innovator’s DNA—the five discovery skills that distinguish breakthrough innovators: associating, questioning, observing, experimenting, and networking. However, I pursue these sectors not to collect experiences, but to develop proficiency in leading when uncertainty defines the landscape. Cross-industry PM work demands these innovation skills because it requires connecting disparate patterns, challenging assumptions across different organizational cultures, and experimenting with solutions that work in varied contexts.
Consequently, I’ve developed this playbook to capture that journey—one grounded in integrity, driven by curiosity, and designed for immediate impact.
Moreover, this represents more than a portfolio in disguise. Instead, it’s a strategic resource designed to help project managers, program leaders, innovation leaders, and cross-functional teams build from structure into adaptive agility, without losing clarity or execution discipline.
Furthermore, it demonstrates how professionals can achieve quick wins while creating sustainable value, especially those transitioning between industries or stepping into leadership roles.
🧭 Why This Playbook Exists

Initially, I didn’t set out to create another PM framework. Rather, I sought to codify both explicit and tacit knowledge—the critical moments, hard-earned wisdom, and proven patterns that don’t appear in standard job descriptions but drive real results.
Cross-industry project and program management requires fluency in both explicit knowledge (formal methods, strategic frameworks) and tacit knowledge—the kind learned through lived experience, timing, communication, and decision-making across complex, real-world settings. This playbook includes both.
Therefore, this playbook addresses three strategic imperatives:
- What cross-industry insights can accelerate others’ success?
- How can leaders demonstrate readiness for immediate impact?
- What systems enable sustainable value creation across sectors?
Additionally, it’s designed for hiring managers, strategic partners, and change agents who need to see how vision translates to execution, how values drive performance, and how professionals can deliver measurable impact from day one.
🔍 Leadership Assessment: Data-Driven Self-Awareness
Recently, I completed a comprehensive 360° Reach Assessment that provides objective insight into my leadership profile. Colleagues and partners consistently identify me as a judge, expert, muse, philanthropist, and self-starter. However, these aren’t just descriptors—they’re predictive indicators of leadership effectiveness.
Core Strengths:
- Synthesizing big-picture strategy with operational details
- Facilitating creative problem-solving and inclusive dialogue
- Building trust through authentic, approachable communication
Key Competencies:
- Articulating complex ideas with clarity and persuasion
- Developing talent through mentoring and skill-building
- Solving multi-faceted challenges with innovative solutions
- Inspiring confidence while delivering consistent results
Furthermore, my Business Chemistry® profile reveals complementary insights. Business Chemistry, developed by Deloitte, identifies four primary work styles based on how people approach problems and interact with others. My profile combines Guardian and Driver traits with strong Integrator capabilities.
This assessment aligns remarkably well with my 360° feedback: I establish structure and trust simultaneously (Guardian), I drive results with decisive action (Driver), and I identify connections others overlook. The combination explains why colleagues see me as both an expert and a judge—I bring systematic thinking with results-focused execution.
Ultimately, this self-awareness directly influences how I mentor talent, design systems, and lead initiatives where impact matters more than activity.
🧰 Inside the Playbook: Proven Tools for Immediate Impact
This isn’t a theoretical framework—it’s a practical knowledge system built from real-world leadership challenges, cross-functional projects, and measurable outcomes. Each component reflects tested strategies, validated lessons, and frameworks proven across multiple sectors, bridging the gap between traditional PM discipline and adaptive innovation leadership.
Capital Project Excellence: How a $2.5M defense Factory Rearrangement Project eliminated 20,000+ labor hours while improving production yield. This demonstrates systems optimization, lean operations, and team alignment for high-stakes delivery.
Curatorial Leadership Case Studies: Documented successes from conference management, museum partnerships, employee resource groups, and STEM/STEAM + Arts Integration programs. These show how experience design and inclusive practices drive innovation and engagement.
Nonprofit & Workforce Development: Digital learning platforms and education-to-career pathways serving under-resourced communities. This proves that disciplined project management plus adaptive empathy scales sustainable impact.
Data-Driven Change Management: Interactive dashboards, AI-powered retrospectives, and stakeholder communication strategies. These transform ambiguity into actionable insights while building stakeholder buy-in.
Implementation Templates: Project charters, success metrics, reflection frameworks, and AI-enhanced productivity tools. These enable teams to adopt proven methods without starting from scratch.
Moreover, you’ll discover a curated Innovation & Leadership Reading List connecting systems thinking, data storytelling, and inclusive leadership—because continuous learning accelerates professional growth. This collection bridges both explicit knowledge from established frameworks and tacit knowledge from cross-industry experience.
💡 Strategic Vision: Scaling Leadership Impact
This playbook represents a pivotal moment in my adaptive leadership journey—one focused not just on resilience, but on regenerative growth. After successfully navigating career transitions and industry pivots, I’ve learned to lead from the center, build momentum from the margins, and create value even when roadmaps don’t exist. Throughout this evolution, I’ve mentored emerging leaders while demonstrating how systems can empower people, not just processes.
Now, this phase centers on designing from strength, leading with intention, and scaling initiatives with enterprise-level impact. It’s not about adaptation—it’s about transformation.
2025-26 Strategic Priorities:
- Enterprise Leadership – Securing roles where cross-sector expertise, data storytelling, and curatorial influence unlock organizational transformation
- Strategic Partnerships – Collaborating with organizations that value both rigor and inclusion to co-create innovation roadmaps
- Community Development – Facilitating workshops and peer learning sessions where practitioners can adapt playbook tools to their specific contexts
If you’re leading complex change initiatives—and you need a partner who integrates systems thinking with human-centered design—let’s connect.
